Mill Creek March 2007 Newsletter

As you all know from last months newsletter, Robyn has gone to England. With Vivian working hard to become a famous movie star I have hired two new trainers. Ira Della Monica is a very experienced rider and teacher her disciplines include, dressage, hunters and jumpers. Ira is also certified with the NARHA (North American Riding for the Handicapped Association). Joe McKinley moved here from Northern California where he has ridden and trained for Teresa Korol for many years. Joe is a lovely, knowledgeable rider and will school horses in dressage and jumping, as well as teach lessons. You will find Ira is a knowledgeable professional and a kind sensitive teacher. Joe is outgoing, enthusiastic and full of energy. I am so happy to welcome them to Mill Creek they will both begin March 1, 2007.

I am going to ask all boarders if you could buy and use dark green buckets and feeders. Using one color will help keep the stable looking more orderly.

I have found a truly wonderful new product, called “Stall Skins” and I have already installed them in a couple of stalls, they are winners! Please look at these on the internet at www.stallskins.com. These are not rubber mats! The total cost of material and installation is $300.00 (for a 12 x 12 stall; larger stalls will cost more). Mill Creek will install and pay ½ for anyone who would like these in their stall. The urine goes through so your horse will never stand on wet shavings; odor and skin rashes from acidic shavings are eliminated. Stalls stay drier and we find the bedding lasts much longer. The stall skins are said to last approximately 10 years. I will order on March 15 so please tell the office if you wish to order. Those of you who have been buying extra shavings for your horses each month should be most interested in trying this product. The reduction of waste removal has been significant.

Remember that on Mondays if you are not 18 years old you may not be at Mill Creek without a parent.

For our show riders, Mill Creek is going to be offering a load and unload service. We will bill it through the office. Leaving for the show Mill Creek will put on shipping boots (not wraps), put the horse on the trailer, unload at the show grounds, water, spread bedding and feed: the cost will be $60.00. Unloading service will only be available if a groom has gone to the competition with you. Returning from the show Mill Creek will load at the show and unload at Mill Creek, put your horse in their stall and remove shipping boots: the cost will be $50.00. You must inform the trainer who is attending the show with you if you are in need of this assistance.

March 10 & 11 Mill Creek will have several riders competing at the Flintridge Horse Trials in La Canada. This is the closest horse trials we attend and we would like to encourage you to come out and watch and support Mill Creek.

The address is:

The tentative time schedule is Saturday 7:30 am Dressage and 10:30 am Show Jumping. Sunday 8 am Cross Country will start. Start times will be posted on the internet at FlintridgeRidingClub.org if you wish to look for a particular rider’s times.

The 2007 Mill Creek Spring horse show will be Sunday, May 20. Entries will be available on our website and in the office soon.

If I can help with anything please feel free to ask me.
